Dr. Gilda Barabino
Serving as the chief academic diversity officer, the VPAD is a member of the President's cabinet and provides the vision to define, assess, and nurture diversity as an institutional and educational resource. The VPAD advises the President, Provost, and other campus leaders regarding diversity issues and works to advocate and expand diversity efforts in the research, education and service missions. Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs in the Office of the Provost, this position provides leadership in the recruitment, retention, and career development of minority and women faculty and students.
The VPAD has oversight and sets strategic direction for following Georgia Tech office and programs: the Office of Minority Educational Development Services (OMED), the Center for Women in Science and Technology (WST), the ADVANCE Program to increase representation and advancement of women in academic careers, and the Focus program for the graduate school recruitment of under-represented groups. Furthermore, this position is expected to work collaboratively within the established campus diversity network and with administrative units throughout the Institute.
