Dr. Smith and student, Lisa Li
Dr. Anderson D. Smith is Regents Professor of Psychology and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. His previous position was Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Academic Affairs. From 1994 to 2005, he was associate dean of the College of Sciences, and prior to that he served for eight years as director of the School of Psychology. Since 1970, he has been on the faculty at Georgia Tech conducting research on how human memory changes in normal aging. His research on aging and memory has been supported by the National Institutes of Health for 30 years. At Georgia Tech, he has won both the Outstanding Teacher Award and the Sigma Xi Sustained Research Award. In 1997, he was awarded the "Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award" from the Division of Adult Development and Aging of the American Psychological Association. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Gerontological Society. He is also past editor of the Journal of Gerontology and served on the NIH National Advisory Council on Aging. In 2005, he was selected as an Honorary Alumnus of Georgia Tech by the Alumni Association. Dr. Smith has served on the Board of Directors of Saint Anne's Terrace, the Northside Shepherd's Senior Citizen Center, and Zoo Atlanta.
